Chess

We are now accepting entries for the 2016-17 academic year primary school chess tournaments. To enter a team please complete our entry form.
  • Annually, we run two chess competitions for junior school children. Contestants have joined us from a number of chess-playing junior schools, including Chad Vale, St Barnabas, St Patrick's Catholic School, The Shrubbery and West House.
  • Most children competing are in Years 5 or 6, though younger chess players with talent are also welcome. We do ask that all players are familiar enough with the rules of chess to be able to play a game without assistance.
  • The format of the competition allows each pupil to play several chess matches in one afternoon, most of which will be against opponents of a similar standard. More details are given in the attached document at the bottom of this page.
  • The rules of the tournament are sent out to schools beforehand and are also fully explained on the day. A copy of the rules is also attached to this page.
