King Edward's School Home

An independent day school for boys aged 11 to 18

Events in 2015-16

  • Jenny Herbert, our former Director of Drama, is spending two days per week visiting junior schools every week to work on drama skills. Please see the attached flyer and contact us if you are interested in a visit to your school.
  • A matinee performance of The Lion, The Witch and The Wardrobe for primary schools took place in The Ruddock Performing Performing Arts Centre on Friday, 27 November 2015.

Previous Events

  • Every year, we hold a Junior Schools Matinee for local primary schools of one of our school productions. Pupils from Year 5 and Year 6 join us for a specially-edited matinee of our senior production (16-18 year olds), our Middle School production (14-16 year olds) or our Junior Production (11-14 year olds).
    • 2011: Into the Woods
    • 2012: Alice
    • 2013: West Side Story
    • 2014: The Real Inspector Hound
    • 2015: The Witches
  • In 2014, Jenny Herbert assembled Year 5 pupils from four local primary schools: Moseley CE, St Mary's CE, Allenscroft and Chad Vale. 120 pupils were on stage at once, acting parts in the dramatic world of Beyond the Willows - a play about what happened to the characters from The Wind in the Willows some generations afterwards, when under threat from Ofsted inspections, gang warfare and other problems...
  • On 28 and 29 January 2015, we ran a terrific workshop (repeated over the two days) in collaboration with the Shakespeare Birthplace Trust for primary teachers on how to teach Shakespeare to Years 5 and 6. Participants were making pomanders, writing with quill pens and insulting each other with real gusto! We hope to run the course again next year: if you would like to join us, please let us know.
