Water Polo: KES U16 are National Champions

09 May 2009

King Edward\'s School won their second national water polo title in two years on Saturday 9th May. The under 16s squad defeated Manchester Grammar School 3-2 in the final to become ESSA national water polo champions. The squad was led by captain James Cull along with Great Britain squad members, Morgan Hirsch and Andrew Macarthur.

The team began the day as third seeds but topped their qualifying group by beating City of London School 5 goals to one and following this up by beating second seeds Trinity School Croydon by 3 goals to 2.

The semi-final saw a narrow victory over Trinity School Carlisle, 5 goals to 4, to set up a final against the favourites, Manchester Grammar School. Up to this point King Edward\'s had not played well but the final saw an impeccable performance to reduce a Manchester side that had scored 16 goals in the tournament to only two goals in the final.

The Under 18s finished third in their national championships and along with the Under 16\'s impressive victory, this was a very successful day for King Edward\'s water polo.
