King Edward's School Home

An independent day school for boys aged 11 to 18

Trips and Expeditions

Every year, the school offers approximately 140 school visits. The outdoor activities programme starts in Year 7 with weekend hill walking, climbing and caving trips. Whole forms of pupils take part in Shell Camps, a three-day camp in Year 7, and this is extended to a five-day hostelling trip in a national park in Year 8, Rems Week. By Year 9 the KES Expeditions Award has started which leads into the Duke of Edinburgh Award Scheme. Trips take place in the UK and abroad: there is an annual cycle tour for a week or more in Europe, a visit to Pompeii and Herculaneum and a historical visit to Normandy.

By Year 9, Year 10 and beyond, a major expeditions programme is available with destinations in the last few years including Morocco, Namibia, Honduras and Madagascar. Sporting trips include cricket and rugby tours. There is a range of language visits including immersion in Spanish during a week's cultural stay in Salamanca, together with visits to France and Germany. The full list of trips on offer can be seen here.
