Davies, Eric Powell

Gunner ▪ 1st Army School of Mortars, Royal Field Artillery

Eric Powell Davies, born on 16th June 1895, was admitted to King Edward’s School in January 1906. He lived with his father, William, a jeweller, his mother, Emily, and his brother and sister. The family lived at 73, Alcester Road, Moseley. Records from the school archive reveal that Eric showed talent at drawing and science, but was less successful with French and Latin.

In 1915, Eric enlisted in the Royal Field Artillery as a Gunner. He was later attached to the 1st Army School of Mortars. He was killed on 28th November 1917, aged twenty-two. He is buried in Aire Communal Cemetery, France, and is commemorated on the Arras Memorial and on St Mary’s Church Memorial, Moseley. Eric left his estate of £288 to his father.
