ball, g.h.

Captain, 1/5 South Staffordshire Regiment, Territorial Force

Distinguished Service Order

Military Cross (Mar. 8, Oct. 4, 1919).

On October 12, 1918, east of Bohain, he led an attack on the south-west edge of Riqueval Wood. The enemy barrage disorganised the attack, and drove it back temporarily. He reorganised his company, and with the help of part of another company he again attacked, gaining the edge of the wood and occupying a line some 200 yards into the wood. His great gallantry and devotion to duty won the admiration of his men.
