fowler, a. s.

Second Lieutenant, Royal Field Artillery

Military Medal, Military Cross (Nov. 11, 1918).

For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. With the assistance of two men he tore down the camouflage of a gun which had been set on fire by the bomb from a enemy aeroplane, and extinguished the flames, though there was no water available and the heat was so intense that the ammunition in the pit was liable to explode at any moment. The position was being heavily shelled at the time. By his courage and presence of mind he averted an explosion which would have caused heavy casualties.
