Second Lieutenant, York and Lancaster Regiment
Military Cross (Aug. 16, 1917).
For conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty. As intelligence officer during our offensive he carried out his work with the greatest ability and courage. By his untiring energy under heavy shell fire, touch was kept day and night between the different units, under very difficult conditions; and he personally led with great success a party against a strong point which had for some time been holding us back from the final objective. His example throughout the whole of the operations was magnificent.
