Near Sweveghem, on October 20, 1918, he showed marked gallantry and ability when in command of his company. The enemy put up a stubborn resistance during the whole of the attack; but, in spite of heavy machine-gun and shell fire, he, by his skilful handling of his men, forced the enemy to give ground, and eventually, after hard fighting, reached his objective.
