During the operations on October 23, 1918, he displayed conspicuous gallantry and devotion to duty in command of his section. Under heavy shell fire he reconnoitred sites for, and constructed five infantry crossings over the Harpies Brook in the vicinity of Vendegies-au-Bois, and rendered harmless two bridges over the stream.
