Second Lieutenant, Acting Captain, Royal Field Artillery, Service Regiment

Military Cross (Jan. 8, 1918).

During an intense hostile bombardment of his battery position, he, accompanied by another man, went back to the position after his battery had taken cover to a flank, and worked for half-an-hour under continual shell fire, extricating an N.C.O. who had been severely wounded and half buried in the ruins of a house. No praise can be too great for this gallant act of devotion.
