Summer School

Each summer, King Edward’s School, in partnership with King Edward VI High School for Girls, runs a free Summer School for pupils in Year 4 to raise the aspirations of bright children from disadvantaged backgrounds.

The children participate in three days of activities, ranging from pond-dipping, beekeeping, horticulture and sport to online learning, debating and learning to use microscopes. The activities are run by teachers from King Edward’s School and King Edward VI High School for Girls, supported by a team of student mentors from both schools who act as mentors to the children.

The activities are most suited to children who are above national average in reading, writing and mathematics. We would encourage you to select your most able pupils for the Summer School as the level set is very high. The children can, but do not need to be, eligible for the Pupil Premium.
