The Personal Service Group was established at King Edward’s in the early 1970s. Since then, the Group has played an active role in the local community whilst also providing a beneficial and character building activity to the boys who take part.
Offered as part of the Friday afternoon activities programme, around 70 boys from Year 10 upwards go out on placement in the community every Friday afternoon as part of the Personal Service Group.
Placements are most successful and enjoyable when they align with a boy’s personal interests, and so boys are given guidance by staff on choosing and arranging their placement. There is no limit on what boys can apply to do, as long as it serves the community, and placements have included primary schools, care homes, charity shops, libraries, health centres, hospitals and animal sanctuaries.
