The Chamber Orchestra delighted audiences on a tour of Italy during the half term break under the leadership of Peter Bridle.

16 boys from Year 9 to Year 13 entertained large audiences in three concerts across Tuscany in unusual venues, a cathedral in Chiusi, a theatre in Citta della Pieve, and a sanctuary church in Mongiovino, near Perugia.

The programme included pieces by Mozart, Marcello, Grieg and Rachmaninov and involved solos by two boys who are members of the National Youth Orchestra (NYO), Robbie Ruisi (violin) and Adam Phillips (oboe). Robbie, who is the Leader of the NYO also played an encore of unaccompanied Bach. The tour party also had the opportunity to visit Siena, Assisi, Cortona, Orvieto, Pienza and Motepulciano.

John Claughton, Chief Master of King Edward\’s School, said: “This trip has been an unforgettable experience for all the boys, staff and audiences. I know because I was there too.

“The quality of the music was truly exceptional: Robbie and Adam are two of the very best young musicians in this country and the whole chamber orchestra played beautifully. All of this is made possible by the brilliance of Peter Bridle as the conductor who has set amazing standards of musicianship in this school for 38 years. And we also had plenty of time to see some beautiful places.”
