Boys are celebrating after achieving the school’s best ever GCSE results.

The 125 boys in the year have broken last year’s records with the highest ever percentage of A* grades at 69% and 92% A*/A. This is the first time that the school has broken the 90% A*/A barrier and is the highest percentage of A*/A grades ever achieved by a boys’ school in Birmingham. Out of a year group of 125, 27 boys achieved 10 A*s, 42 boys achieved either 9 or 10 A*s and 72 boys achieved only A*s and As.

John Claughton, Chief Master, said: “This is a thrilling set of results for the boys, the staff and the school. We broke our GCSE records by a distance in 2013, so to do even better this year is quite extraordinary. These results are great news, not only for those who get 10 A*, and 20% of the boys did get a full house, but for all the boys in the year group: to get over 90% A*/A requires almost every boy to perform at his very best.

“This year group has been striking for its sense of purpose and ambition and it is wonderful to see them get their due rewards. Nor are they all just working for exams: these boys are also very active in any number of ways in school life with music, drama, sport and expeditions: several of them have just come back from the school hockey tour to South Africa. This also means a lot to the boys’ teachers and tutors whose care for each individual boy makes such a difference.”
