The House system is an essential part of the KES community and every pupil is allocated to one of eight Houses.
The House system was created in 1902 and every boy is allocated to a House.
The school is divided into eight Houses, each named after former Headmasters or Second Masters. The eight Houses are:
- Cary Gilson (Headmaster 1900-1929)
- Gifford (Headmaster 1848-1862)
- Evans (Headmaster 1862-1872)
- Heath (Headmaster 1900-1931)
- Jeune (Headmaster 1834-1838)
- Levett (Second Master 1890-1902)
- Prince Lee (Headmaster 1838-1848)
- Vardy (Headmaster 1872-1900)
The wide range of events fosters not only healthy, good-natured competition, but also provides countless opportunities for participation, teamwork and school spirit. Competitions take place throughout the year across an enormous variety of activities, including cooking, sport, music, drama, debating, chess, quizzes and much more.
Each House has a member of staff who is Head of House, and teachers and other staff are all allocated to Houses. If a pupil has a family connection with a particular House, it is possible for him to be allocated to that House.
