Food and Nutrition

Food plays an important role in supporting pupils’ health, wellbeing and success at school.

Catering at King Edward’s School is provided in partnership with Thomas Franks, combining high-quality ingredients, nutritious menus and expert dietary support to ensure pupils enjoy healthy, balanced meals throughout the day.

From breakfast before lessons to lunch with friends in the Dining Hall, pupils can choose from a wide variety of freshly prepared hot and cold options designed to suit a range of tastes, appetites and dietary requirements

Freshly prepared food every day

Our catering team prepares a broad selection of meals each day, offering pupils plenty of choice while encouraging healthy eating habits.

Breakfast options range from cereals, toast and fruit to freshly cooked hot breakfasts, helping pupils start the day well. At lunchtime, pupils can enjoy a selection of hot main courses, fresh vegetables, salads, soups, desserts and grab-and-go options, all served in a welcoming dining environment.

Alongside traditional favourites, menus are continually refreshed to provide variety and seasonal choice throughout the year.

Supporting health and wellbeing

We believe that good nutrition underpins academic achievement, sporting performance and overall wellbeing. Through our partnership with Thomas Franks, pupils benefit from a catering approach that places nutrition, quality and choice at its heart.

Our food provision is designed to support the needs of busy, active young people, ensuring they have access to balanced meals and healthy options throughout the school day.

Dietary requirements

We cater for a wide range of dietary requirements and allergies, with vegetarian, halal and other specialist options available. Meals are clearly signposted, and our catering team works closely with families to ensure individual needs are met wherever possible.

Dining at King Edward’s School

It is compulsory for all pupils in Year 7 to take lunch in the Dining Hall. From Year 8 onwards, pupils can opt in or out of lunches on a termly basis.

Sixth Formers are catered for in the Upper School Common Room where drinks and hot snacks can be purchased. They can also leave the school site to purchase food at lunchtime and opt into the Dining Hall food provision.
