Festival of Colour

A large group of people covered in colourful powder are posing for a photo on a grassy field under a clear blue sky. Many of them have their arms raised in celebration of Holi.
On the 24th of April 2026, the KES/KEHS Hindu forum organised a Holi celebration for the two schools on the KEHS field.

So, what actually is Holi? Holi is a vibrant Hindu festival, celebrated widely across India, marking the arrival of spring and the victory of good over evil, and the renewal of relationships. It is often celebrated with coloured powders (hence being known as the festival of colours), song and dance, and recalls traditional stories like Prahlad and Holika. People who take part no longer are recognisable by their skin colour, race or gender, (as they get covered in powder) which promotes the fundamental qualities of equality, unity and love which we try to establish in society and communities worldwide.

This year, we welcomed over 150 staff and students to celebrate this festival of joy with us, who were all met with delicious samosas and spring rolls, along with a variety of drinks topped off with cultural music. After chatting and eating it was time for the real fun to start. As the colour throwing began sounds of laughter and joy filled the air. New friends and lifelong memories were made. Our aim was to bring this event all the way from India to our school for teachers and students of all cultures, ethnicities, and beliefs to enjoy.

With this aim in mind, we believe that we fulfilled our aspiration from seeing how much people enjoyed, and the positive comments we received from students such as Dhruv (Fifth) who said “The atmosphere was fantastic and the food and snacks were delicious! But the highlight was definitely the colour throwing!” and from Luca (Fifth) who said “I had an amazing time at Holi 2026. Lots of people worked really hard to organise it and it really paid off! Also, the photos are awesome!”

We would like to firstly thank all the pupils and teachers who attended this year, without whom the event would not have been anywhere near as special or successful. Also, this incredible celebration would not have been possible without our friends and teachers who assisted us in bringing such a culturally rich festival all the way from India to the KES and KEHS campus, so massive thank you to Ananya, Anya (KEHS Lower Sixths), Karan (Fourth), Dr Kulkarni, Ms Raguram, Ms Sangha and Mr Aggarwal.

This truly was a one-of-a-kind experience, and we can’t wait to see you at Holi 2027 which promises to be even bigger and better…

Tolkien Lecture: Cricket as Business, Culture and Entertainment

On Tuesday 28 April, the Ruddock Performing Arts Centre was the venue for the second Tolkien Lecture since the series resumed following its pause due to the pandemic. It was a pleasure to continue this much anticipated programme of talks, named in honour of one of the most distinguished alumni of King Edward’s School, J. R. R. Tolkien.
