Junior Production – Oliver Twist

The company also gave it their all to make it the spectacular performance it was written to be, bringing the workhouse, Fagin's den and the streets of Victorian London to life.

This year’s Junior Production was based on the classic novel Oliver Twist, written by Charles Dickens and adapted by Anya Reiss into a script for a play. After roughly ten weeks of hard work, the cast delivered a matinee performance to outreach schools and Shells, followed by two spectacular evening shows.

Rocco’s portrayal of Oliver had the audience sympathising with him and rooting for his character from the very beginning and, in contrast, Aydin brought the intimidating crook (Bill Sikes) to life, portraying his character’s ruthlessness for his final Junior Production. We know Dickens would have been proud of Peter’s performance as the pompous Mr Bumble, Joshua’s delivery of the cheeky and quick-witted Artful Dodger and Thomas’s depiction of the caring and generous Mr Brownlow.

The company also gave it their all to make it the spectacular performance it was written to be, bringing the workhouse, Fagin’s den and the streets of Victorian London to life. Stage crew created an amazing set for the performers to work within, and the make up team put in so much effort to help bring each character to life – particularly the older ones! A huge thanks goes to the technicians for their tremendous work on lighting and sound, and to the directors for all of their efforts throughout the process.

Tolkien Lecture: Cricket as Business, Culture and Entertainment

On Tuesday 28 April, the Ruddock Performing Arts Centre was the venue for the second Tolkien Lecture since the series resumed following its pause due to the pandemic. It was a pleasure to continue this much anticipated programme of talks, named in honour of one of the most distinguished alumni of King Edward’s School, J. R. R. Tolkien.
