King Edward’s School in national top 10 for sport

King Edward’s School, Birmingham has been ranked in the top 10 schools for sport in England. At 9th in the list, King Edward’s is the only Birmingham school in the top 10.

School Sport Magazine compiled a list of the top 200 sporting schools, based on results data from more than 4,000 schools. The annual list, which covers boys’, girls’ and mixed schools in the independent and state sectors, is based on performance in 20 different sports and more than 120 different national competitions. Throughout the year, PE departments share their fixtures and scores with School Sport Magazine which are tallied to generate the top 200 list.

Phil Tusler, publishing editor of School Sport Magazine, said: “This has been another remarkable year for competitive sport in schools and King Edward’s School deserve their achievement. The list unashamedly reflects and celebrates competitive achievement in a range of sports and honours those schools that take competition especially seriously.”

In 2024, KES enjoyed a number of sporting successes, including the 1st XV winning their group at the Rosslyn Park National 7s and reaching the U18 Schools Vase National Semi-Final, U13A cricket team becoming National Runners-Up and County Champions, and the U14 squash team finishing as National Runners-Up. In tennis, our Year 7 and 8 team placed third in the National Championships. Additionally, two boys joined the Warwickshire Country Cricket Club Academy, highlighting a fantastic year for sport across the school.

Lawson Roll, KES Director of Sport, said: “Being ranked among the top 10 sporting schools in the country is a tremendous achievement. Sport is a vital part of life at King Edward’s, and we are committed to providing our boys with every opportunity to excel. I am immensely proud of our pupils for their dedication and performance in fixtures over the past year, as well as the hard work and expertise of our teachers and coaching staff.”
