Pupils took part in workshops, talks and information sessions. There is such a buzz about having a room full of Old Eds, parents, academics and local professionals all sharing their different career stories. Well done to our pupils. A common theme in feedback from speakers was about the impressive level of engagement and maturity displayed, as well as a great confidence in asking brilliant questions.
Over the course of the week, we were helped to think about a range of questions: How does a child acquire their first language? Why study criminology? What is the job of a gastroenterologist? What are the pros and cons of studying a degree through the apprenticeship route? What are the key aspects of being a Barrister? How much of one’s career is about luck and can you make your own luck? What can students be doing now to build their career development skills? Will AI steal all our jobs? Why do linguists fare better in the job market? Can Chemical Engineering help you understand the best thing since sliced bread!? How does the work culture at Meta compare to that at Heineken and does it matter? How many times does an entrepreneur need to fail? How safe should you play it with your career and what are the benefits of risk-taking?
