Two Cities Book Award 2024

On Tuesday 10 December, KES hosted the Award Ceremony for the Two Cities Book Award, now in its third year. This initiative is a joint venture between the KES library and Wolverhampton Grammar School library, supported by Authors Aloud UK.

Pupils from ten schools across Birmingham and Wolverhampton—including King Edward’s School, King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Girls, King Edward VI Camp Hill School for Boys, King Edward VI Handsworth School for Girls, Queensbridge School, the University of Birmingham School, Wolverhampton Grammar School, St Peter’s Collegiate School, Heath Park Academy, and our very own King Edward VI High School for Girls—read the shortlisted titles and voted for their favourite.

The ceremony featured inspiring talks from authors Ashley Hickson-Lovance and Bex Hogan, as well as a musical performance by KES pupil Isaac (UM), a talk from KEHS pupil Japmeh (Lower Fourth), the Birmingham Young Poet Laureate, and Sachi, the Wolverhampton Young Citizen of the Year. We were thrilled when Ashley Hickson-Lovance was named the winner for his gritty, inspiring, and hopeful novel Wild East.

It was a true celebration of all that is great about reading and books. We are already looking forward to next year!

Sports Science Trip – Inside England’s elite training ground

What was astonishing was the pros did the whole thing for five minutes in each, doing 5X what we did. All in all, the trip was interesting and insightful, and on behalf of everyone that went, I want to thank Mr Macdonald, Mr Caviezel-Cox and Mr Lloyd for organising it.

Rems Week

The great weather allowed everyone to enjoy great views of the mountains and lakes, from the hostel gardens as well as during activities. We choose youth hostels with gardens so that boys can enjoy playing outdoors in the evening.

A Classics Odyssey

It was truly amazing to be surrounded by such history, dating back millennia, built as a symbol of Athenian pride that still stands today.
