GCSE results day celebrations

Fifths at King Edward’s School, Birmingham are celebrating excellent GCSE results that reflect the hard work and determination they have shown throughout the pandemic.

In line with the results of previous years, out of a year group of 123, 45 boys achieved at least ten 9/8s and a further 21 achieved nine 9/8s. The overall percentage of 9/8 grades attained was 74% and 89% were 9-7.

Dr Katy Ricks, Chief Master of King Edward’s School, said: “I am very proud of the boys receiving their results today and would like to particularly congratulate them on the resilience that they, and their teachers, have demonstrated in adapting to the changing circumstances of the last 18 months.

“These boys will now progress to the Sixth Form with the added benefit of having spent much of the summer term preparing to engage with their International Baccalaureate Diploma (IB) studies. The enrichment offered by this pre-IB course, which we also ran with last year’s Fifths, will provide them with an excellent head start to their academic learning.

“There is much for this year’s cohort to look forward to and I would like to congratulate them once again on everything that they have already achieved.”

The 2021 IB Diploma results were awarded in July 2021, with boys at the school achieving an average score of 40.3 and over three-quarters of the year group securing grades of 7 or 6 in all three of their Higher Level subjects, the equivalent to three A*/A at A-level.
