Gemstones reunion brings Old Edwardians together

On Saturday 25 January, the Development and Alumni Relations Office hosted the Gemstones Reunion, bringing together some of our oldest Old Edwardians from both KES and KEHS.

With representatives from the classes of 1965, 1975 and 1985, it was a truly joyful occasion filled with nostalgia, laughter and reconnections.

The day began with a joint reception at KEHS, where Chief Master & Principal, Kirsty von Malaisé, warmly welcomed attendees and updated them on school today. It was heart-warming to see so many Old Edwardians catching up, some recognising faces they hadn’t seen in over 50 years. One gentleman from the class of 1965, the only representative from his year, was quickly embraced by the other guests in other year groups along with his contemporaries from KEHS – it was as if they had known each other for years.

The morning session featured an archive stand, expertly managed by our Archivist, Charlotte Gallant, giving attendees the chance to contribute to their very own special Alumni Yearbook. It was wonderful to see so many Old Edwardians enthusiastically sharing their memories and leaving messages for their future selves.

Following the morning activities, guests made their way to the boys’ Dining Hall for a delightful afternoon tea. They were treated to a selection of sandwiches, homemade cakes, prosecco, and plenty of tea and coffee – ensuring a relaxed atmosphere.

The afternoon continued with guided tours of KES, led by some of our current prefects. Highlights included visits to the Andrew Brode Sports Centre, the school library, and even some of their old form rooms. It was a fantastic opportunity for Old Edwardians to reminisce about their school days, revisit familiar haunts, and marvel at how much (or how little!) has changed over the past 40 to 60 years.

The reunion concluded in the Common Room with more tea, coffee, and cake and it was nice to hear some were planning to continue their reunions into the evening. It was a truly memorable day, full of shared stories and renewed friendships. We are already looking forward to welcoming everyone back for their next reunion in ten years’ time!

The great Easter Debate: a sweet, chaotic showdown

If you were expecting a serious, well-structured debate at this year’s Easter debate, you were in for a surprise. What unfolded was less of a formal argument and more of a theatrical masterpiece – complete with flying chocolate, wild accusations and a speaker who somehow turned it into a human rights campaign for sugar.

Chimera Racing’s journey to the F1 in Schools National Finals

Managing all of this in just three weeks was no easy task – there were plenty of ups and downs, but the team’s dedication made it possible. The level of skill, commitment, and passion each person brought to their role made the challenge easier to handle, and seeing everything come together at nationals was a testament to the hard work and resilience of every team member.
