KES cricketers complete 500km challenge

KES cricketers Eddie (Fifths) and Arjun (Fifths), along with their teammates from the Warwickshire County Cricket Club Academy and EPP (Emerging Player Programme) completed an incredible 500km running and cycling challenge to raise funds for their upcoming tour to Pakistan.

The ambitious fundraiser saw the players cover 1,000 laps around Edgbaston, pushing themselves to their limits in a true test of endurance. Their goal was to secure sponsorships and donations to help finance the trip, ensuring that every squad member could take part. Thanks to their efforts and the generosity of supporters through their GoFundMe page, the team has successfully raised the funds needed for this exciting tour.

With just two weeks until departure, the squad is now focused on fine tuning their skills and preparing for what promises to be a once in a lifetime experience. The tour will provide a fantastic opportunity for the young cricketers to test themselves in unfamiliar conditions, gain international experience and further develop their game.

Eddie and Arjun played key roles in both the challenge and the fundraising efforts, demonstrating their leadership and commitment to the team. Their dedication reflects the strong cricketing culture at King Edward’s, where hard work and determination are just as important off the field as they are on it.

The team would like to extend their gratitude to everyone who supported their challenge, from sponsors to family and friends who donated. Now, all eyes are on Pakistan, where the squad will look to make the most of this incredible opportunity.

Stay tuned for updates from the tour as the boys take on new challenges and represent King Edward’s on the international stage!

Tolkien Lecture: Cricket as Business, Culture and Entertainment

On Tuesday 28 April, the Ruddock Performing Arts Centre was the venue for the second Tolkien Lecture since the series resumed following its pause due to the pandemic. It was a pleasure to continue this much anticipated programme of talks, named in honour of one of the most distinguished alumni of King Edward’s School, J. R. R. Tolkien.
