The library

The library at KES is for the benefit of all members of the school community. We aim to offer a purposeful learning environment with a range of facilities and resources to support the academic and recreational needs of all pupils and staff.

Facilities

The library occupies a large, purpose-built room in the centre of the school. There is plenty of seating suitable for formal study as well as 12 networked computers and a photocopier and printer. Adjoining it is the library annex, which houses the fiction section and DVD collection.

Resources

The library has a stock of over 20,000 printed books. Non-fiction material reflects the curriculum as far as possible, and also provides for recreational interests. Fiction aims to cover as broad a spectrum of writers as possible.

There are over 50 periodical and newspaper titles, over 600 DVDs and online subscriptions to: Encyclopaedia Britannica, Image Quest, Think: Philosophy for Everyone, Grove Music Online, New Scientist, English Review Archive, Who Next, History Today and JStor.

Enrichment

Regular author visits, book fairs, reading group meetings and competitions enhance the pupil experience.

Reading lists

A selection of reading lists are available to download below but there are many more which can either be collected directly from the library or downloaded from the library area of Firefly.
