King Edward’s School (KES) is proud to announce its impressive set of GCSE results, which demonstrate the dedication and determination shown by its pupils.

Top grades achieved by Fifth Form pupils were all above those recorded in 2019 (the year before COVID-related special arrangements for GCSE grading were in place).

This year:

  • 44% of grades were 9s (2019: 40%)
  • 69% of grades were 9-8s (2019: 68%)
  • 88% of grades were 9-7s (2019: 85%)

Of the cohort of 132 pupils, 114 (86%) took at least 10 GCSEs. Thirteen pupils achieved 10 straight grade 9s and 33 pupils achieved all 9/8s across their 10 GCSEs. In addition to taking 10 GCSEs, 54 pupils also took a Further Maths qualification, and nine of these pupils achieved 11 grade 9s across their GCSE subjects and Further Maths.

Dr Katy Ricks, Chief Master of King Edward’s School, said: “I am delighted by the remarkable achievements showcased in this year’s GCSE results. As a compulsory part of the GCSE curriculum, it is always pleasing to see Maths achieving so highly, with 55% of the year group achieving grade 9s (2019: 54%) and 96% achieving grades 9-7 (2019: 95%). Geography was taken by 81% of our pupils, and recorded an impressive 60% grade 9s (2019: 48%) and 96% grades 9-7 (2019: 92%). Reflecting the school’s breadth of success, our Classics results were also pleasing, with Greek and Latin achieving 80% and 62% grade 9s (2019: 67% and 39%) respectively, while 100% of our Music students achieved grades 9-7 (2019: 100%).

“Our students have demonstrated dedication not only to their academic pursuits but also across a wide spectrum of activities. These results show our commitment to nurturing well-rounded individuals who excel academically and in their wider pursuits.

“At King Edward’s, our focus is on delivering a holistic education that encompasses academic excellence alongside a diverse range of co-curricular activities, from sport and music to drama, societies and service.

“As the pupils look ahead to their IB Diploma studies, we are confident that the solid foundation demonstrated by today’s GCSE results will serve as a launchpad for their success in the Sixth Form. I look forward to seeing them continue to flourish in the coming months.”
