King Edward’s School achieves Gold in the School Games Award

School Games Gold Mark

We are delighted to be awarded the School Games Gold Mark for the 2022-23 academic year.

The School Games Mark is a Government-led award scheme launched in 2012, facilitated by the Youth Sport Trust to reward schools for their commitment to the development of competition across their school and into the community, and we are delighted to have been recognised for our success.

Throughout the 2022-23 academic year, KES has experienced many sporting successes. These accomplishments covered various sports, with highlights including Rafael’s outstanding performance as the U16 Champion in the West Midlands Age Group Foil Championships, the fencing team gaining multiple qualifications for the British Youth Championships National Finals, and remarkable achievements in the Public Schools’ Fencing Championships. Yuvraj emerged as the under-12 British Weightlifting Champion, while Krish excelled in shooting by reaching the National Finals and securing 5th place in the 10m standing air rifle category. The U14 squash team achieved 3rd place, while the U16 squash team secured 2nd place in the English Schools’ Plate Competition. The U14 tennis team showcased their talent by securing 4th place in the National Schools’ Competition. The school was also recognised as one of the top 100 senior schools for cricket in the UK and ranked in the top 30 schools for sport in England.

Chris Johnson, KES Director of Sport, said: “Securing the School Games Gold Mark is a remarkable accomplishment. We firmly believe in the transformative power of sports, and we strive to provide our boys with every opportunity to unlock their potential. Thank you to our talented pupils, as well as our exceptional teachers and coaching team, whose efforts have contributed to this outstanding success.”

As part of our application, the school was asked to fulfil criteria in the areas of participation, competition, workforce and clubs, and we are pleased that the hard work of everyone at KES has been awarded this year.
