Rugby is thriving at King Edward’s School, with 16 sides regularly competing against the leading schools in the Midlands each Saturday. The rugby club saw over 150 fixtures last season, with fixtures for A-D teams in certain age groups. At the performance end, the school won the Greater Birmingham Tournament in three age groups, placing as runners up in the other. The schools 1st XV had a fantastic season, reaching the final of the National Vase and running out at Allianz Stadium (Twickenham) in front of over 500 members of the school.
The school has five pitches on South Field, immediately in front of the school buildings, and a 1st XV pitch at our Eastern Road playing fields. The school also plays host to a Coventry Rugby Junior Academy Centre, which enables young rugby players from across the West Midlands to be provided with a clear and structured pathway to professional rugby.
Last season’s 1st XV captain, secured a professional contract with Dragons RFC in Wales, and several other recent leavers can be seen displaying skills learnt at KES across BUCS Universities, National League and Regional rugby clubs.
A feature of rugby at King Edward’s School is the senior tour every two years. Recent destinations have included: Malaysia, Australia, New Zealand, Canada and South Africa.
