Boys at King Edward’s School are celebrating another year of outstanding GCSE results.

Out of a year group of 120, 32 boys achieved at least 10 9s/8s, a further 22 achieved 9 9s/8s, and half of the cohort achieved only 9s, 8s and 7s. Overall, the percentage of 9/8 grades attained was 68% and 85% were 9-7.

Results in mathematics and science were particularly impressive with over 50% of examinations awarded grade 9 in mathematics, physics and chemistry.

This news follows excellent International Baccalaureate Diploma results achieved by boys at the school this year, with an average score of 37.9 points and over half of the year group achieving grades of 7 or 6 in all three of their Higher Level subjects, the equivalent to three A*/A at A-level.

Graham Watson, Director of Studies, said: “These are deservedly excellent results for our boys, who have all worked exceptionally hard. I am also delighted for their teachers who have supported the boys throughout their studies and helped them realise their academic potential.

“These boys are not only successful academically but contribute in so many ways to the life of the school: in sport, music, drama and through numerous clubs and societies. I am extremely proud of all that they have achieved and look forward to their continued success as they progress into the Sixth Form in September.”
