Daniel (Sixths) has signed a professional rugby contract with the Newport Dragons and will be combining his sporting ambitions with academic study, having secured a place to read Human Geography at Cardiff University.
His rugby journey is already well underway, having begun pre-season training with the Dragons’ Senior Academy. “I’m really happy – it’s such a good feeling to see all the hard work pay off, both in my grades and on the rugby pitch,” said Daniel. “It feels like the end of something special, but in a good way – and I’m excited for what’s next: rugby, university life, meeting new people, and hopefully some travel too.”
Daniel has made an enormous contribution to school life at KES. A gifted all-rounder, he captained the First XV rugby team to the national finals at Twickenham, represented the school in water polo at national level, and took part in countless music concerts. Reflecting on these experiences, he said: “KES has been such a special place for me. I’ve been part of so many great moments, and it’s all shaped who I am. I’m especially grateful to all the coaches, particularly Mr Adams and Mr Lloyd, for helping me grow not just as a player, but as a person.”
His rugby career at KES has been a family affair – following in the footsteps of his older brother Noah (OE 2023), who also captained the First XV and is currently preparing for a year of study in Singapore as part of his Geography degree at the University of Bristol.
Director of Rugby Mr Adams said: “We are so proud of Dan and all he has achieved as he embarks on a career in professional rugby. His attitude, commitment and leadership have made a lasting impact on the KES rugby club. Dan’s journey hasn’t always been smooth – long-term injuries and setbacks have only made him more determined. His success is thoroughly deserved, and we know he will thrive at Cardiff University and with Dragons RFC.”
