King Edward’s School named among UK’s Top 100 Cricket Schools for 2025

King Edward’s School (KES) has once again been named one of the UK’s Top 100 senior schools for cricket by The Cricketer magazine.

This marks the third consecutive year of recognition; showcasing the exceptional cricketing programme, world-class facilities and a dedication to nurturing talent.

The Cricketer’s Schools Guide is a highly respected resource for parents and cricketing enthusiasts, providing a comprehensive overview of the best cricket programmes in schools across the UK.

Our inclusion in the guide is a result of our strong cricket programme. Cricket remains the major summer sport at KES, with 11 teams from the 1st XI down to U12C level. The school’s facilities include an excellent 1st XI cricket ground at Eastern Road, three junior pitches on the school playing field, a four-lane all-weather net complex, top quality grass nets alongside the 1st XI pitch, plus a three-lane astroturf set of nets. The sports hall also provides four lanes of nets, and these nets are much used throughout the winter, during our extensive winter coaching programme (for all age groups). Our full-time cricket coach works with the boys throughout the year and also makes use of county players for additional coaching. Each year, we host visiting teams from overseas and in recent years our seniors have toured the West Indies and our juniors have regularly toured Dubai.

KES Head of Cricket Lawson Roll said: “Being named among the UK’s top cricket schools for the third year running is a fantastic achievement. It highlights the dedication of our pupils, coaches and staff in making cricket an integral part of life at KES. We remain passionate about fostering talent, teamwork and a lifelong love for the game.”

KES’s success in cricket is not just about developing outstanding players. It is also about developing well-rounded individuals who are passionate about the game and committed to teamwork, sportsmanship, and personal growth. The school’s cricket programme provides students with the opportunity to make lifelong friendships, learn valuable life skills, and develop an enduring love for the sport.

A large number of our boys represent their counties at age-group level. Our facilities are used by Warwickshire County Cricket Club for age-group matches. The school has also staged an England Blind Team Test Match and it hosted cricket during the International Blind Sports Federation’s World Blind Games during the summer of 2023.

This season alone has seen exceptional achievements from KES pupils with Aditya (Rems) has been selected for the Worcestershire Country Cricket Club Sub Academy recognising his outstanding potential. Arjun (Fifths) earned a placed in the Warwickshire Country Cricket Club Emerging Player Programme following a remarkable 2024 season. Eddie (Fifths) was accepted onto the Warwickshire Country Cricket Club Academy Programme marking an exciting step in his cricket career.

KES Cricket Professional Nathan Round said: “These individual successes reflect the depth of talent and commitment within our cricket programme. We are incredibly proud of Aditya, Arjun and Eddie and look forward to seeing them thrive in their county pathways.”

We are also delighted that King Edward VI High School for Girls (KEHS), with whom we share our 50-acre campus, has been named one of the UK’s Top 20 all-girls schools for cricket by The Cricketer magazine. Together, KES and KEHS form a powerhouse for cricket, demonstrating our shared commitment to excellence in the sport and providing exceptional opportunities for boys and girls alike to develop their skills and passion for the game.

The 2025 Schools Guide is included alongside the December issue of The Cricketer (available on the newsstand from today). The guide will also be made available digitally on thecricketer.com throughout the year.
