Netflix movie: 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion

Exciting news! On Thursday 12 December, the BBC One Show featured the incredible true story behind the upcoming Netflix movie The Six Triple Eight, starring Kerry Washington and Oprah Winfrey. This was a remarkable opportunity to learn about the story of the 6888 Central Postal Directory Battalion – an all-female, predominantly African-American unit stationed at KES during the Second World War.

Richie Anderson visited the school in June to film this segment, where he interviewed Miss Bréchon-Smith and some of our pupils.

We were also honoured to be invited by the US Embassy to a prestigious preview screening of Netflix’s Six Triple Eight in London on Thursday 12 December.

The event included a panel discussion moderated by renowned historian David Olusoga, featuring Kerry Washington and Tyler Perry. The audience was a distinguished gathering of film, television, and production professionals, alongside representatives from the Ministry of Defence, National Archives, Imperial War Museums and more.

Miss Bréchon-Smith and Mr Bennett accompanied KES and KEHS pupils Chinemerem, Ayanna, and Molayo, along with the Foundation Archivist Mrs Gallant and Miss Lamba, our Head of Marketing and Communications, to represent the school at this inspiring occasion.
