Wales’ Commonwealth Games hopes

a picture of the welsh flag

Jake Heyward: Born 26 April 1999 is a Welsh middle-distance runner whose best event is the 1,500m race. He has recently been in good form as he competed in his first Olympics this year in Tokyo, got to the final and came 9th, which makes him a strong contender for a medal at the Birmingham Commonwealth Games. He is also one of the most promising runners Wales and Britain have had in recent years and broke the 31-year standing Welsh record for the 1,500m.

Lauren Price: Born 25 June 1994 is a Welsh amateur boxer, and former kickboxer and footballer (she has two international caps for the Welsh women in football). She already has two Commonwealth medals including one bronze from 2014 and a gold medal from 2018 in the middleweight class. She has only improved since then as well, as she has won gold medals at the European games, world boxing championships and Olympic gold in Tokyo which really elevated her to star status. However, after her success in Tokyo she has considered becoming a professional boxer meaning she would not be able to compete in the Commonwealth Games, which would be a big blow to the Welsh medal hopes, whether this happens or not is still unknown.

Matt Richards: Born 17 December 2002 is a Welsh swimmer who has had very recent success competing in the Tokyo Olympics for Great Britain where he swam the third leg in the 4x200m freestyle relay and took home a gold medal. His other medals include two silver medals and a gold medal at the 2020 European Championships. He has also broken the Welsh 100m and 200m freestyle records showing he is one of the best swimmers that Wales have produced and is a very strong medal hope for the Commonwealth Games.
