Almost 200 primary school children take part in each of our two annual chess tournaments.
Each of the tournaments takes place in one afternoon, with the children competing in lots of fast paced, five-minute games. The format of the competition enables the children to be matched with opponents of a similar ability by grouping together players with a similar score at the end of each round.
Most children competing are in Year 5 or 6, though talented chess players in younger years do also take part. All players should be familiar enough with the rules of chess to be able to play a game without assistance.
A copy of the rules of the tournaments is available for download here.
Date: Our next chess tournament will be announced shortly.
Time: TBC
Location: King Edward’s School
The competition is open to children in Years 4 to 6 from state schools. We recommend a maximum of 10 children from each school but can be flexible on numbers if necessary.
