A team of three Sixth Form students from King Edward’s School, Birmingham has secured a place in the National Final of the Institute of Chartered Accountants (ICAEW) BASE competition.

Year 12 students Kai Nixon (captain), Azed Bhatti and Saad Ashraf have already completed an online business quiz and produced a video presentation for the competition that seeks to provide students with a taste of what it is like to work in the fields of finance and accounting.

The team impressed the judges with their analysis of investment strategies for warehouse automation to progress to the online final on Wednesday, 16 June 2021, when they will compete against 23 other teams for the crown of National Champions.

Ron Turford, Head of Economics and Business Management, said: “It’s a great achievement to reach the final of this prestigious competition. I’m delighted for the boys who put such a lot of thought and effort into their entry. I wish them the very best of luck for next month’s final!”

BASE is ICAEW’s annual business and accounting competition for 16-17 years old across the UK. Students take part in team challenges with the aim of giving them an understanding of what it’s like to be an ICAEW Chartered Accountant whilst developing their key employability skills.
