Rems Week

The great weather allowed everyone to enjoy great views of the mountains and lakes, from the hostel gardens as well as during activities. We choose youth hostels with gardens so that boys can enjoy playing outdoors in the evening.

124 excited Rem boys set off for the Lake District National Park, leaving everyone else back in school sitting their exams.

We were fortunate to enjoy perfect weather for the week: no rain, plenty of sunshine, but also not too hot. Some classes visited show caves en route to Cumbria whilst others stopped at Trentham Monkey Forest.

Everyone climbed a good-sized mountain during the week which was challenging and gave a great sense of achievement. During the canoe day, boys paddled in groups of two for a journey on either Coniston Water or Ullswater, pausing to make a pizza or pancake on a lakeside beach. Half of the ‘rock’ day was spent rock climbing and half was spent on an adventurous ‘ghyll scramble’ which is an experience similar to canyoning.

Phones are left at home during Rems Week so the boys can enjoy a week of friendship and adventure without distraction.

Pupils track the ISS with Astro Pi Mission

Having succeeded in the competition, we were then given the opportunity to partake in an online Q&A session with the ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano, which was a very interesting and useful experience, where we learned a lot about life as an astronaut, especially what it is really like to spend time on the ISS.
