A meeting with The King!

a picture of a group of people meeting the king

Recently Ashar from Shells had the incredible opportunity to visit the host venue of this year’s Eurovision Song Contest in Liverpool. The purpose of the visit? To meet with none other than their Majesties The King and The Queen Consort, who were there to receive the prestigious Gold Blue Peter badges. It was an unforgettable experience for Ashar and an exciting honour to be in the presence of royalty.

Ashar (12), has six of his own Blue Peter badges, including silver for making a difference in his community and for his volunteering work with St John Ambulance. He appeared on the show alongside two other lucky fans, who spoke with The King and The Queen Consort at length about what they did to acquire their impressive collection of badges.

The King has made notable contributions on Blue Peter, including in 2018 when he met competition winners who had designed dragon statues for the great pagoda at Kew Gardens, and in 1982 when he was interviewed by Blue Peter about The Mary Rose, showing the audience artefacts from the ship and speaking about its preservation.

You can watch Ashar in action on the Blue Peter Coronation special, airing on Friday 5 May at 5pm on CBBC and on the BBC iPlayer.
