Author Visit: Steve Cole

Children’s author Steve Cole at King Edward’s School, Birmingham Performing Arts Centre on Tuesday 11 October 2022.

On Tuesday 18 October we hosted our annual author visit, which is always a huge highlight in the Partnerships calendar. We had the honour of hosting Steve Cole; a prolific author and writer who has written more than 200 books since 1997. Such books include his own series fiction such as Astrosaurs and Cows in Action. More recently, his books have been designed to raise children’s awareness of global problems with titles including Tin Boy and World Burn Down.

He thrilled just over 700 children from 20 local primary schools by sharing some humorous stories about his books, including advice on literary techniques and creative inspiration that can be used to inform the children’s own writing.

Reactions from Year 4 pupils included “I liked the trip because it was really funny. I liked it because the author – Steve Cole – told me how to write books” and “He taught us how to write and also signed our own book!”

A visiting primary teacher said: “The visit arranged by KES to meet Steve Cole was fabulous. Steve’s personality and passion for writing was evident and the children were thoroughly engaged in his session. The next morning, one of our boys in Year 5 brought me a poem he had written inspired by his visit to KES. Thank you so much for a memorable experience.”
