Numbers add up at GCSE for King Edward’s School

Boys at King Edward’s School are celebrating after achieving excellent GCSE results all round and exceptional results in maths.

Out of a year group of 138, 26 boys achieved 10 A*s/9s/8s, a further 23 achieved 9 A*s/9s/8s, and 54 boys achieved only A*s/9s/8s and As/7s. Overall, the percentage of A*/9/8 grades attained was 65% and 85% were A*/A/9/8/7.

In GCSE Mathematics, which uses numerical grades, 59% achieved the top grade of 9, with a further 27% achieving grade 8, and in Further Mathematics 73% achieved A* or A* with Distinction.

This news follows excellent International Baccalaureate Diploma results achieved by boys at the school this year, with an average score of 37.9 points and 46% of the cohort attaining scores of 40 points or above: the equivalent of more than four A*s at A-level.

Graham Watson, Director of Studies at King Edward’s School, said: “I am incredibly proud of the results our boys have achieved and am delighted for both the boys and their teachers.

“These results have been achieved by boys who are active in so many ways in the rich extra-curricular life of the school: sport, music, drama, and numerous clubs and societies. This rounded education combined with their excellent academic results will serve them well as they start the IB Diploma Programme in September.”
