Work begins on new sports centre

a design of the new sports centre

At the end of October work began on the construction of a new £5m sports centre on the edge of South Field.

The centre, which is due to be completed in autumn 2018, will include a new sports hall, cardiovascular fitness room, multipurpose space, classroom, and changing rooms.

Dr Mark Fenton, Chief Master, said: “I am delighted that work has begun on our new sports centre, which will provide exceptional facilities for both the study and practice of sport.

“King Edward’s has a great sporting history, with a number of Old Edwardians enjoying successful careers both on the sports field and within the industry. The sports centre will be a welcome addition for both our pupils and staff, and the community groups who use our facilities.”

The work is being undertaken by Stepnell Ltd, a family-owned building and civil engineering company based in Rugby, which has a strong track record in constructing educational buildings, particularly for independent schools.
