A word from Vince House

As term continues apace, it is clear that many boys are relishing the challenges and opportunities they face. A glance through last week’s newsletter highlights several accounts of pupils and staff giving time and energy in the pursuit of service – a long held tradition of King Edward’s School. This newsletter celebrates their achievements. Staff continue to work to support PPE production and have made and distributed more than 2,250 face shields to date.

In this edition, you will read about the boys’ efforts to raise money for good causes through their 2.6 lockdown challenges. Fifth formers, Aran Bansal and Advait Kuravi, have masterminded a plan to cycle 260km throughout the month of May and have raised in excess of £4,000, at the time of writing. An OE, Matthew Smith (2018), is running laps of his garden until he clocks 1,407km – the distance from Land’s End to John O’Groats. I may not be able to compete with Matthew for distance but I do get to look out over the beautiful South Field on the doorstep of Vince House. I’m lucky enough to be able to get my exercise by running a few laps. I have calculated that if I do four laps 10 times, that will amount to roughly 26k. Nine more rounds to go then – so watch this space!

Be sure to tune in for the English department’s Book at Bedtime and to read the reports from the Aerospace and Birdwatching societies. The school seems so quiet on site and yet it is as busy as ever. I hope this newsletter provides a window into the collective spirit of the KES community.
