Women’s Rugby Player of the Year Award

Women's Rugby Player of the Year Award

Emily Scarratt, England fullback and King Edward’s School PE teacher, has been awarded the England Women’s Player of the Year in association with 15 Magazine.

Emily picked up the award at the annual Rugby Players’ Association Dinner on Wednesday, 22 May 2013.

Voted for by players in the England Elite Playing Squad, 23-year-old Emily Scarratt impressed again this season in both international XVs and Sevens. The fullback/centre was instrumental in helping England record an unprecedented series whitewash of World Champions New Zealand in the autumn whilst she was also part of the Sevens squad that won titles in London and Houston this year.

Emily said: “This is a massive privilege and I am delighted. This has been a huge year competition wise for the team both in XVs and Sevens and hopefully we’ll continue to be successful at the World Cup Sevens later next month too.”

“It may not be obvious for a boys’ school to have a female coach,” said John Claughton, the Chief Master, “but at least we have the best in the business.”

“Emily has been a great presence here as a coach and a teacher and we are very proud of all she has done. She is undoubtedly an inspiration to the boys she teaches. It\s really nice for them to be coached by her and then watch her on the television playing rugby at Twickenham.”
