Birdwatching Club

This term has been extremely enjoyable for Birdwatching Club as we have been thoroughly active even during this period of lockdown. 

This week, a dramatic event occurred in Mr Porter’s garden, where his spotted flycatcher young have unfortunately been predated on, likely by great spotted woodpeckers.

The average lifespan of common garden birds varies a lot as we can see from this table:  

Many thanks to everybody who has helped along the way and we look forward to continuing in September at school or online.

Daniel has made an enormous contribution to school life at KES. A gifted all-rounder, he captained the First XV rugby team to the national finals at Twickenham, represented the school in water polo at national level, and took part in countless music concerts.

Having succeeded in the competition, we were then given the opportunity to partake in an online Q&A session with the ESA astronaut Luca Parmitano, which was a very interesting and useful experience, where we learned a lot about life as an astronaut, especially what it is really like to spend time on the ISS.
