KES named the region’s highest performing day school for boys

King Edward’s School, Birmingham (KES) has once again been named the highest performing day school for boys, either independent or state, in the West Midlands.

Its GCSE and IB results from the summer have secured its third place position on the region’s independent school rankings, behind only King Edward VI High School for Girls (KEHS) and Concord College, which is an international boarding school.

At 41st, and rising three places from last year, KES is also firmly within the national top 50 rankings for independent schools, being more than 50 places above the next school in the West Midlands.

The Sunday Times’ Parent Power guide for 2026 is published online today at thetimes.com/best-schools-league-table and a printed supplement will be included with this Sunday’s edition of the newspaper.

KEHS has been named West Midlands Independent Secondary School of the Year for Academic Excellence for the fifth consecutive year. It also remains the highest-achieving day school for girls – independent or state – outside the South-East, with a national ranking of 11th among independent schools.

Indeed, KES and KEHS are the only West Midlands secondary day schools in the national top 50.

Kirsty von Malaisé, Chief Master & Principal of KES and KEHS, said: “We are delighted that KES continues to be recognised as the leading day school for educating boys in the West Midlands. Moving up the national rankings reflects not only the hard work and dedication of our pupils, but also the expertise and commitment of our staff. Our broad curriculum, combined with rich co-curricular opportunities, allows every boy to thrive academically, discover his passions, and grow into a confident, well-rounded young man. This achievement is a true reflection of the dynamic ambition of our whole school community.

KES was recently featured in the Tatler Schools Guide 2025 and has once again been named among the UK’s Top 100 Cricket Schools for 2026 by The Cricketer. These accolades reflect the school’s commitment to providing an exceptional, well-rounded education that inspires pupils to achieve their full potential.
